How i started...

After my college degree in architecture and structural engineering i worked for 5 years at a construction firm were i achieved a huge success i climbed up the ranks so fast and at the end it was not enough for me. So i started thinking "why not do something myself..."

So after that i never stopped i always grow my interest of building beautiful landmarks and i would like to encourage other women to come into the construction industry.

Achievments by women this quater

This was a special quater for us, we have witnessed an impressive number of women new comers into construction industry. It is a good sign for construction to have more women coming in to do business as it encourages other women and also present a good challenge to those already in the industry

About succeful women

This week we have Roni Savage. Roni Savage launched her construction company, Jomas Associates, in 2009. She is an Environmental Engineer who gained her BEng in Engineering Geology and Geotechnics at the University of Portsmouth and her MSc in Environmental Management at the University of Exeter. Savage also took part in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and this year she celebrated her business’ £2m turnover. Prior to setting up her own company, Savage worked for engineering consultancies and was involved in many projects across the UK, including the widening of roads such as the A406 and M25. She now works with land developers, assessing ground conditions and remediating land contamination, allowing reclamation of brownfield or derelict land. Savage is passionate about diversity and inclusion, encouraging others to explore construction jobs for women. In addition, she is a multi-award winner. This year she was named Black British Businessperson of the Year, the Precious Awards Entrepreneur of the Year and awarded the Best Business Women in STEM Award.

The Construction Business

Houses, apartments, factories, offices, schools, roads, and bridges are only some of the products of the construction industry. This industry’s activities include work on new structures as well as additions, alterations, and repairs to existing ones. (Some government establishments do the same work and employ a significant number of people, but information about them is not included in this article.) The construction industry is divided into three major segments. Construction of buildings contractors, or general contractors, build residential, industrial, commercial, and other buildings. Heavy and civil engineering construction contractors build sewers, roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, and other projects. Specialty trade contractors are engaged in specialized activities such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work. Construction usually is done or coordinated by general contractors, who specialize in one type of construction such as residential or commercial building. They take full responsibility for the complete job, except for specified portions of the work that may be omitted from the general contract. Although general contractors may do a portion of the work with their own crews, they often subcontract most of the work to heavy construction or specialty trade contractors. Specialty trade contractors usually do the work of only one trade, such as painting, carpentry, or electrical work, or of two or more closely related trades, such as plumbing and heating. Beyond fitting their work to that of the other trades, specialty trade contractors have no responsibility for the structure as a whole. They obtain orders for their work from general contractors, architects, or property owners. Repairwork is almost always done on direct order from owners, occupants, architects, or rental agents.
